Affiliate commission formulas
Affiliate commission is what you pay partners when their referral drives a qualified outcome— usually a sale, but sometimes a lead or trial. The calculation depends on how your program is structured.
Percentage of sale (revenue share)
This is the most common model for SaaS and e-commerce. You agree on a rate (for example 20%) applied to the order value attributed to the affiliate.
- Commission per sale = sale amount × (commission rate ÷ 100)
- Total commission = commission per sale × number of qualified sales
Example: $150 sale at 12% → $150 × 0.12 = $18.00 per order. Ten such sales → $180.00 total.
Fixed amount per conversion (CPA)
Some programs pay a flat fee per signup, lead, or sale. Here the order size does not change the payout (unless you use tiers, which this simple calculator does not model).
- Total commission = fixed payout × number of qualified conversions
What affects “real” commission in practice
The calculator shows gross commission from your inputs. In live programs, net payouts may differ because of refunds, chargebacks, VAT, payment processor fees, or minimum payout thresholds. Always align calculations with your affiliate agreement and finance rules.
